Networking – Do you dread the question “So What do you do?”

When I first made the decision to go out on my own and started my Virtual Assistant business I dreaded meeting anyone new and being asked THAT question.  So Kristie - WHAT DO YOU DO? My usual response was I'm a Virtual Assistant.  This usually got me the blank stare, no response - utter silence.  I'd be stammering for something else to say to keep the conversation going.  Um well I provide admin support for businesses but I work from home.  More often than not within 30 seconds I got the standard response - It was nice to meet you Kristie; I might catch up with you later. I would always go home asking myself why don't I meet any business contacts that are interested in what I do.  Eventually it dawned on me.  It was my response.  That first response is crucial as it's their first impression of what you do and here I am giving them a 2 word answer they probably have NO idea what it is, nor what it means and immediately they are thinking to them-self - "how can I get away politely". It was like a light bulb moment.  I needed to portray what I did in a way that people would understand and more importantly want to know more. So, it was back to the drawing board for me to really think about what I did as a Virtual Assistant, how our admin support can help business reach their potential and more importantly why use us. 5 Ways to use a VA

5 Ways to Use a VA. For many small businesses owners they often find themselves trying to do everything that needs to be done in their business to save money and find that they run out of time for the most important thing - What They Do Best. More often than not this means that they are sitting in their office trying to keep updated with the admin or stay on top of the accounts when really they should be working ON their business not stuck working IN their business which ultimately can cost them money. Are you sitting there asking yourself how? Look at it this way, if in your business you charge your time out at a particular rate, why would you sit in your office doing the admin or the accounts and miss out on this potential income. By hiring a Virtual Assistant to complete these tasks while you work on what you do best, you would therefore have made an income while your admin or accounts were being completed. So what are the 5 Top Ways to use a VA? 1. Email & Diary Management A number of my clients have an info@ or admin@ email address that is directed through to me so I can reply to any sales enquiries, quotations & general questions or potential bookings. I respond on a daily basis and if securing a booking I am able to also enter this into my clients diary ensuring their diary is kept up to date with all his / her appointments. 2. Maintaining Websites & Blogs Keeping up to date with writing blogs and updating websites can be rather time consuming.  This is one task that can [...]
