Why It’s Important To Revisit Past Content

A few years ago I did some simple tutorial video's to post on facebook.  Nothing fancy just a few screen captures on specific topics in some area's I thought could help. Back then it was all about uploading to YouTube and sharing the link on Facebook (before the organic video phase on facebook). While I thought the tips were great, they didn't really resonate with my facebook audience.  So as we do quite often with our marketing, we evaluate what we are doing and move on to other marketing strategies and more often than not, we forget about what we have done. Last week I went into my YouTube channel looking for something else and didn't I get the shock of my life when one of the video's I created has been viewed over 3200 time!  WOW and not only that, there were comments. So what can we learn from this? 1. Don't forget what you have done in the past. Evaluating what does and doesn't work is great and it is ok to change your marketing strategy however don't overlook what you have done in the past.  You created the content for a reason and just because it didn't work where you thought it would, there are other platforms that it might be more relevant in. 2. Branding is Key. Whatever content you create, make sure it is branded with your logo, relevant keywords and specific title.  Always put a link back to your website.  When conducting a google search around this title, I was amazed to find it on Page 1.     3. Revisit and Reuse As I said before, I created this content for a reason so why not get the most out of it.  2 [...]

Tips For Organising Your Paperwork

Stay organised & avoid that filing headache Organisation is the key to staying productive and as we head into the second quarter of the financial year,  it's time to get your office sorted & make the rest of the year a streamlined process & stay one step ahead of that dreaded "filing". When it comes to paper filing, have a clearly labelled tray for your filing & at the end of the week dedicate 30 minutes to filing & ensure everything is filed before you finish for the week.  This will ensure that first thing Monday morning you start the week with an empty tray with no excess paperwork clogging up your workspace. Tips for organising your paperwork Colour Coded Paper Files Whether you are filing using lever arch folders or a lateral filing system, colour coding your files is a great way to easily identify your files. Choose a colour for each department or admin section & be consistent across both systems.  e.g.Accounts - Blue, IT - Green, Advertising - Purple.  This way if you are on the run & need to grab a file, you can easily identify where it is by the colour of what you are after.   Electronic Filing Whether you are using dropbox, google drive or your own cloud based filing system, the key to productivity is knowing where your files are. Create clear structured folders which include plenty of sub-folders to help keep things specific. Give files logical  names & include dates in file names where possible.  The goal when naming files is to be able to tell what the file is about without having to open it & look. Be consistent with your approach & whatever you do stick [...]

Business Award Finalist

It was the Manning, Gloucester, Great Lakes night of nights for members of the business community last night with the Annual Business Awards held at the Taree Wingham Race Club.  Our chance to dress up, let our hair down and enjoy a night out mingling with some fantastic businesses in our region. I am very excited to announce that JMK Business Solutions was a finalist in two categories, Business Leader and People's Choice Award.   While we were not the winner in these categories, I was extremely proud to have made it as a finalist with some amazing businesses.  What makes it even more special is that 4 of our clients were also finalists with one client taking out 2 highly commended awards and winning another.  Such a proud moment to have been mentioned in the acceptance speech and to be a small part of such an amazing team. It was also lovely to have been recognised as a volunteer of the Manning Valley Business Chamber with a mention and thank you in the program.  The night was a huge success and it would not happen without the hard work and dedication of Sharon Fowle the Executive Officer of the Business Chamber and other volunteers. A very big congratulations to the amazing finalists, highly commended winners and of course the winners of each category.  So much hard work goes into each and every business and I am so very proud to stand along side you all  as a business owner in our region.

An Introduction to Facebook for Business

On the 28th February I had the privilege of facilitating a discussion on Social Media for a group of women who attended the first BAR Briefing Lunch Session in Tuncurry run by The Business Centre.  It was a fantastic session and it was clear that everyone wants to know more about Social Media.  The feedback I received was that there was no where to go to get shown how to actually use Facebook and everything I had talked about and so as a result our new session An Introduction to Facebook for Business was born. The 12th April will see 2 sessions kick off with a hands on approach to Facebook showing people how they can use actually use Facebook in their Business.  I'm very excited that our morning session is full with only a few spaces left for the afternoon session. It's going to be a great day and i'm looking forward to working with some of our fantastic local businesses and showing them how they too can use Social Media to market their business and increase their online presence. JMK Business Solutions was lucky enough to again feature in this months Women in Business section of the Great Lakes Advocate and what a great way to introduce our new Facebook for Business workshop.

Networking – Do you dread the question “So What do you do?”

When I first made the decision to go out on my own and started my Virtual Assistant business I dreaded meeting anyone new and being asked THAT question.  So Kristie - WHAT DO YOU DO? My usual response was I'm a Virtual Assistant.  This usually got me the blank stare, no response - utter silence.  I'd be stammering for something else to say to keep the conversation going.  Um well I provide admin support for businesses but I work from home.  More often than not within 30 seconds I got the standard response - It was nice to meet you Kristie; I might catch up with you later. I would always go home asking myself why don't I meet any business contacts that are interested in what I do.  Eventually it dawned on me.  It was my response.  That first response is crucial as it's their first impression of what you do and here I am giving them a 2 word answer they probably have NO idea what it is, nor what it means and immediately they are thinking to them-self - "how can I get away politely". It was like a light bulb moment.  I needed to portray what I did in a way that people would understand and more importantly want to know more. So, it was back to the drawing board for me to really think about what I did as a Virtual Assistant, how our admin support can help business reach their potential and more importantly why use us. It was that simple - three key things: WHAT is it you do; HOW your services can help; and WHY use your organisation. So based on these three key points my brief 30 [...]

Great Lakes Advocate – Women in Business

Great Lakes Advocate Women in Business Feature - September 2012 The Women in Business feature in the Great Lakes Advocate is out tomorrow and i'm excited to be included in this edition. It is wonderful to be able to educate businesses about Virtual Assistants and how we can assist their business.  There really has been a shift in recent years in the way we work and the Virtual Assistant industry will only keep growing as our profile is lifted and businesses realise the benefits of aligning with a Virtual Assistant.

5 Ways to use a VA

5 Ways to Use a VA. For many small businesses owners they often find themselves trying to do everything that needs to be done in their business to save money and find that they run out of time for the most important thing - What They Do Best. More often than not this means that they are sitting in their office trying to keep updated with the admin or stay on top of the accounts when really they should be working ON their business not stuck working IN their business which ultimately can cost them money. Are you sitting there asking yourself how? Look at it this way, if in your business you charge your time out at a particular rate, why would you sit in your office doing the admin or the accounts and miss out on this potential income. By hiring a Virtual Assistant to complete these tasks while you work on what you do best, you would therefore have made an income while your admin or accounts were being completed. So what are the 5 Top Ways to use a VA? 1. Email & Diary Management A number of my clients have an info@ or admin@ email address that is directed through to me so I can reply to any sales enquiries, quotations & general questions or potential bookings. I respond on a daily basis and if securing a booking I am able to also enter this into my clients diary ensuring their diary is kept up to date with all his / her appointments. 2. Maintaining Websites & Blogs Keeping up to date with writing blogs and updating websites can be rather time consuming.  This is one task that can [...]
