Why It’s Important To Revisit Past Content

A few years ago I did some simple tutorial video's to post on facebook.  Nothing fancy just a few screen captures on specific topics in some area's I thought could help. Back then it was all about uploading to YouTube and sharing the link on Facebook (before the organic video phase on facebook). While I thought the tips were great, they didn't really resonate with my facebook audience.  So as we do quite often with our marketing, we evaluate what we are doing and move on to other marketing strategies and more often than not, we forget about what we have done. Last week I went into my YouTube channel looking for something else and didn't I get the shock of my life when one of the video's I created has been viewed over 3200 time!  WOW and not only that, there were comments. So what can we learn from this? 1. Don't forget what you have done in the past. Evaluating what does and doesn't work is great and it is ok to change your marketing strategy however don't overlook what you have done in the past.  You created the content for a reason and just because it didn't work where you thought it would, there are other platforms that it might be more relevant in. 2. Branding is Key. Whatever content you create, make sure it is branded with your logo, relevant keywords and specific title.  Always put a link back to your website.  When conducting a google search around this title, I was amazed to find it on Page 1.     3. Revisit and Reuse As I said before, I created this content for a reason so why not get the most out of it.  2 [...]

Tips For Organising Your Paperwork

Stay organised & avoid that filing headache Organisation is the key to staying productive and as we head into the second quarter of the financial year,  it's time to get your office sorted & make the rest of the year a streamlined process & stay one step ahead of that dreaded "filing". When it comes to paper filing, have a clearly labelled tray for your filing & at the end of the week dedicate 30 minutes to filing & ensure everything is filed before you finish for the week.  This will ensure that first thing Monday morning you start the week with an empty tray with no excess paperwork clogging up your workspace. Tips for organising your paperwork Colour Coded Paper Files Whether you are filing using lever arch folders or a lateral filing system, colour coding your files is a great way to easily identify your files. Choose a colour for each department or admin section & be consistent across both systems.  e.g.Accounts - Blue, IT - Green, Advertising - Purple.  This way if you are on the run & need to grab a file, you can easily identify where it is by the colour of what you are after.   Electronic Filing Whether you are using dropbox, google drive or your own cloud based filing system, the key to productivity is knowing where your files are. Create clear structured folders which include plenty of sub-folders to help keep things specific. Give files logical  names & include dates in file names where possible.  The goal when naming files is to be able to tell what the file is about without having to open it & look. Be consistent with your approach & whatever you do stick [...]

Focus Magazine Women in Business Feature

A few weeks ago I  was approached by our local magazine the"Manning / Great Lakes Focus Magazine to be one of the 4 women featured on the cover of their March edition for the annual Women in Business feature.  So last Friday I headed up to Club Taree for the photoshoot feeling a little nervous to say the least.  The 4 other ladies were lovely and we had a fun morning doing the photo shoot.  Nothing quite like being handed champagne at 10am on a Friday to get into the spirit of it. The magazine came out today and we are not only on the cover but have a little feature on page 34. It's great to be able to help get the Virtual Assistant industry into the media a little more and not only that but a great honor to be recognised as a successful local business women and represent JMK Business Solutions.

Business Award Finalist

It was the Manning, Gloucester, Great Lakes night of nights for members of the business community last night with the Annual Business Awards held at the Taree Wingham Race Club.  Our chance to dress up, let our hair down and enjoy a night out mingling with some fantastic businesses in our region. I am very excited to announce that JMK Business Solutions was a finalist in two categories, Business Leader and People's Choice Award.   While we were not the winner in these categories, I was extremely proud to have made it as a finalist with some amazing businesses.  What makes it even more special is that 4 of our clients were also finalists with one client taking out 2 highly commended awards and winning another.  Such a proud moment to have been mentioned in the acceptance speech and to be a small part of such an amazing team. It was also lovely to have been recognised as a volunteer of the Manning Valley Business Chamber with a mention and thank you in the program.  The night was a huge success and it would not happen without the hard work and dedication of Sharon Fowle the Executive Officer of the Business Chamber and other volunteers. A very big congratulations to the amazing finalists, highly commended winners and of course the winners of each category.  So much hard work goes into each and every business and I am so very proud to stand along side you all  as a business owner in our region.

Discovering Your True Audience on Facebook

So many people are focused on the number of page likes they have on their Facebook page as an indicator of how well their business page is doing.  When I work with businesses on their Social Media in particular Facebook, we look at their strategy and I ask them what they want to achieve by using it. Many times the answer is I want to get more likes or I want to get to 500 likes.  My next question is Why. Yes they usually look at me as if I've got 2 heads but it's their answer to this question that really shows me whether they have a clear idea in their mind why they want to use Social Media in their business. Many businesses who are already using Facebook don't really know who their true audience is and who is following them. By simply looking at the number of page likes this gives you a one sided view of your audience.  These are the people who are using their individual profile to follow your page.  What about the business community? What businesses are also following you?  Did you know that any business page that likes your page DOES NOT add to your page like tally?  If you provides services to other businesses then this is a key area for you to know who is following you as these businesses could be potential customers. Lets say you have 200 people who like your business page.  You could also have another 200 business pages following you meaning your true audience is 400.  WOW all of a sudden you have doubled your following. So how can you see what business pages are following you?  This short video [...]

Facebook – So What’s the Point?

As social media marketing continues to grow and gain momentum, businesses are jumping on board before really knowing what it's all about and understanding why it's important to integrate their social media marketing strategy with their existing marketing strategy. According to the 2013 Social Media Marketing Industry Report, 92% of the 3,000 marketers surveyed were currently using Facebook and 66% plan on increasing their activities. With over 1 billion people currently using Facebook and spending an average of 30 minutes plus per day using this platform, there is no question about it, your business needs to get social but the question I get asked all the time is "So what's the point?"                      So What's the Point? This question is usually asked by businesses who haven't taken the leap into the world of Facebook but are certainly wanting to.  Below are 3 reasons why your business should have an online presence using Facebook. It provides businesses with the ability to create & grow an engaged community of customers and potential sales leads beyond your local area; Virtual Networking - it's the new word of mouth marketing; and It's all about engagement & adding value to your community. Setting your Facebook Username

People often wonder why they can't tag their business page and why some people can't find them and it's because they haven't claimed their unique username or URL.  This is also now known as your Facebook Page Address.  I see it so often when someone has asked me to go and like their page and send me an enormous page link.  I'm constantly advising businesses on this simple set up change that has so many benefits for their page. So What is a Username or Facebook Page Address? A username or page address for your Facebook business page is ideally named after your brand i.e. www.facebook.com/yourcompany name - where “ your company name” is your username. By creating a username, it makes it easier for you to tell people how to find your Facebook page.   In order to set your Facebook Username, it is as simple as completing this section within your page settings. To make it easy, i've created a step by step guide for you. Facebook Username Instructions So head on over to your Facebook page,  follow these steps and make sure you get your page FOUND. Feel free to leave a comment below if this Facebook Tip helped you and if there are any others you would like to know about.

An Introduction to Facebook for Business

On the 28th February I had the privilege of facilitating a discussion on Social Media for a group of women who attended the first BAR Briefing Lunch Session in Tuncurry run by The Business Centre.  It was a fantastic session and it was clear that everyone wants to know more about Social Media.  The feedback I received was that there was no where to go to get shown how to actually use Facebook and everything I had talked about and so as a result our new session An Introduction to Facebook for Business was born. The 12th April will see 2 sessions kick off with a hands on approach to Facebook showing people how they can use actually use Facebook in their Business.  I'm very excited that our morning session is full with only a few spaces left for the afternoon session. It's going to be a great day and i'm looking forward to working with some of our fantastic local businesses and showing them how they too can use Social Media to market their business and increase their online presence. JMK Business Solutions was lucky enough to again feature in this months Women in Business section of the Great Lakes Advocate and what a great way to introduce our new Facebook for Business workshop.
