Tips For Organising Your Paperwork

Stay organised & avoid that filing headache Organisation is the key to staying productive and as we head into the second quarter of the financial year,  it's time to get your office sorted & make the rest of the year a streamlined process & stay one step ahead of that dreaded "filing". When it comes to paper filing, have a clearly labelled tray for your filing & at the end of the week dedicate 30 minutes to filing & ensure everything is filed before you finish for the week.  This will ensure that first thing Monday morning you start the week with an empty tray with no excess paperwork clogging up your workspace. Tips for organising your paperwork Colour Coded Paper Files Whether you are filing using lever arch folders or a lateral filing system, colour coding your files is a great way to easily identify your files. Choose a colour for each department or admin section & be consistent across both systems.  e.g.Accounts - Blue, IT - Green, Advertising - Purple.  This way if you are on the run & need to grab a file, you can easily identify where it is by the colour of what you are after.   Electronic Filing Whether you are using dropbox, google drive or your own cloud based filing system, the key to productivity is knowing where your files are. Create clear structured folders which include plenty of sub-folders to help keep things specific. Give files logical  names & include dates in file names where possible.  The goal when naming files is to be able to tell what the file is about without having to open it & look. Be consistent with your approach & whatever you do stick [...]

Focus Magazine Women in Business Feature

A few weeks ago I  was approached by our local magazine the"Manning / Great Lakes Focus Magazine to be one of the 4 women featured on the cover of their March edition for the annual Women in Business feature.  So last Friday I headed up to Club Taree for the photoshoot feeling a little nervous to say the least.  The 4 other ladies were lovely and we had a fun morning doing the photo shoot.  Nothing quite like being handed champagne at 10am on a Friday to get into the spirit of it. The magazine came out today and we are not only on the cover but have a little feature on page 34. It's great to be able to help get the Virtual Assistant industry into the media a little more and not only that but a great honor to be recognised as a successful local business women and represent JMK Business Solutions.

Facebook – So What’s the Point?

As social media marketing continues to grow and gain momentum, businesses are jumping on board before really knowing what it's all about and understanding why it's important to integrate their social media marketing strategy with their existing marketing strategy. According to the 2013 Social Media Marketing Industry Report, 92% of the 3,000 marketers surveyed were currently using Facebook and 66% plan on increasing their activities. With over 1 billion people currently using Facebook and spending an average of 30 minutes plus per day using this platform, there is no question about it, your business needs to get social but the question I get asked all the time is "So what's the point?"                      So What's the Point? This question is usually asked by businesses who haven't taken the leap into the world of Facebook but are certainly wanting to.  Below are 3 reasons why your business should have an online presence using Facebook. It provides businesses with the ability to create & grow an engaged community of customers and potential sales leads beyond your local area; Virtual Networking - it's the new word of mouth marketing; and It's all about engagement & adding value to your community. The key to your success when using Facebook lies in your ability to: •  Engage your followers; •  Listen to them; and •  Balance the content you are publishing   So if you're still a little confused or just simply don't have time to set up your page, contact us via kristie@jmkbizsolutions.com.au - we'd be happy to help! Setting your Facebook Username

People often wonder why they can't tag their business page and why some people can't find them and it's because they haven't claimed their unique username or URL.  This is also now known as your Facebook Page Address.  I see it so often when someone has asked me to go and like their page and send me an enormous page link.  I'm constantly advising businesses on this simple set up change that has so many benefits for their page. So What is a Username or Facebook Page Address? A username or page address for your Facebook business page is ideally named after your brand i.e. www.facebook.com/yourcompany name - where “ your company name” is your username. By creating a username, it makes it easier for you to tell people how to find your Facebook page.   In order to set your Facebook Username, it is as simple as completing this section within your page settings. To make it easy, i've created a step by step guide for you. Facebook Username Instructions So head on over to your Facebook page,  follow these steps and make sure you get your page FOUND. Feel free to leave a comment below if this Facebook Tip helped you and if there are any others you would like to know about.

An Introduction to Facebook for Business

On the 28th February I had the privilege of facilitating a discussion on Social Media for a group of women who attended the first BAR Briefing Lunch Session in Tuncurry run by The Business Centre.  It was a fantastic session and it was clear that everyone wants to know more about Social Media.  The feedback I received was that there was no where to go to get shown how to actually use Facebook and everything I had talked about and so as a result our new session An Introduction to Facebook for Business was born. The 12th April will see 2 sessions kick off with a hands on approach to Facebook showing people how they can use actually use Facebook in their Business.  I'm very excited that our morning session is full with only a few spaces left for the afternoon session. It's going to be a great day and i'm looking forward to working with some of our fantastic local businesses and showing them how they too can use Social Media to market their business and increase their online presence. JMK Business Solutions was lucky enough to again feature in this months Women in Business section of the Great Lakes Advocate and what a great way to introduce our new Facebook for Business workshop.

Networking – Do you dread the question “So What do you do?”

When I first made the decision to go out on my own and started my Virtual Assistant business I dreaded meeting anyone new and being asked THAT question.  So Kristie - WHAT DO YOU DO? My usual response was I'm a Virtual Assistant.  This usually got me the blank stare, no response - utter silence.  I'd be stammering for something else to say to keep the conversation going.  Um well I provide admin support for businesses but I work from home.  More often than not within 30 seconds I got the standard response - It was nice to meet you Kristie; I might catch up with you later. I would always go home asking myself why don't I meet any business contacts that are interested in what I do.  Eventually it dawned on me.  It was my response.  That first response is crucial as it's their first impression of what you do and here I am giving them a 2 word answer they probably have NO idea what it is, nor what it means and immediately they are thinking to them-self - "how can I get away politely". It was like a light bulb moment.  I needed to portray what I did in a way that people would understand and more importantly want to know more. So, it was back to the drawing board for me to really think about what I did as a Virtual Assistant, how our admin support can help business reach their potential and more importantly why use us. It was that simple - three key things: WHAT is it you do; HOW your services can help; and WHY use your organisation. So based on these three key points my brief 30 [...]

Networking with Women in Business

Working from home as a Virtual Assistant I always love the days when my business takes me out of the house to talk to people in person.  Today was one of those days.  I was lucky enough to present at our Women Business Buddies Networking Lunch on Tips & Tricks to Improve your Business Administration. I am always inspired after talking to the Women at this lunch as its not all about me, my business and the VA world. I love hearing about their business and I usually learn something along the way. Today it was wonderful to hear about some local women who have been in business for 17 and 29 years.  WOW - what an achievement, and here I am proud of my business after 2 years.  2 years seems like an eternity but in the scheme of things, my business is still in its toddler years. When I moved to the Great Lakes area 2 years ago, the Women Business Buddies Networking lunch was my first introduction to the local area and my first step in "Networking" and getting my business out there. It was such a fantastic experience that I have been to every one since and I am proud to support & offer my time to assist with this wonderful program the Great Lakes Council provides our community. To the women that attended today's lunch I thank you for the encouragement you gave me following my presentation and I look forward to hearing from you about any Tips & Tricks you'd like to learn about to improve YOUR business administration. Incase you get stuck down the track, here is the handout from today's session to help you along [...]

Great Lakes Advocate – Women in Business

Great Lakes Advocate Women in Business Feature - September 2012 The Women in Business feature in the Great Lakes Advocate is out tomorrow and i'm excited to be included in this edition. It is wonderful to be able to educate businesses about Virtual Assistants and how we can assist their business.  There really has been a shift in recent years in the way we work and the Virtual Assistant industry will only keep growing as our profile is lifted and businesses realise the benefits of aligning with a Virtual Assistant.
